post a commentLowering the speed limit may not reduce my gas consumption... But it will undoubtedly increase the revenue of every political subdivision I drive through on that 70 mile trek to work every day :) I guess that will help those subdivisions pay for the gas for their cruisers...
I always thought that was incorrect - driving 55 will save gas consumption, but I guess I am wrong.
Pretty stupid to force the 55 mph - but when people are looking for anyway to save money, way to go Hilary!
Oh my God, Hillary is doing something for once which I approve! More gas is consumed at higher speeds to go the same distance -- at least that is the way that it has been. Is your car different, that you can go fast and not eat up more gas? We have to reduce our dependence on petroleum-based energy as we face an energy crisis in different areas. If your car can go fast and use up the same or less energy than when it goes at 55, then it should have a special mark on its license or your ticket should be automatically resolved. Otherwise, we have to think of the good of ALL. And if the coffers go up because of the need to sometimes speed, so be it. Hey we live in a society.
As for raising taxes, start with the wealthy. The top 1% have more of the wealth than the bottom 90%. That is ridiculous in our so-called democracy. We cannot afford the really rich or the really poor. We need realistic salaries at all levels, including living wages. I am on my soap box again, but this is important. My boss probably earns 8 or 10 times what I do and I do a hell of a lot of his work. Yes, the buck stops with him, but it could be a little bit closer than that. And his wife was outraged when she read what the salary of the top boss was -- about $10,000,000 (plus other benefits/bonuses no doubt) and I told her yes, but that is peanuts compared to some corporate CEOs. It is all relative....
Drive carefully, please, at whatever speed. Now I have to get off my soap box and get some other stuff done.
